Around six years ago, after many years writing, performing and recording my songs, I began to find new characters emerging in them - not drawn from just my own experiences but needing larger, new, narrative structures in which to exist. I feel that the inherent theatricality of being a performing musician and witnessing others in that world, had gradually seeped into my work, alongside the influence of theater in NYC, and I became hooked on writing musicals.

I soon sought out collaborators with whom to craft longer, narrative pieces. I was greatly influenced (actually, my mind was blown!) by Stew’s TONY Award-w—wi inning musical (for Best Book) Passing Strange, and I was fortunate to meet Stew one day at Joe’s Pub. We became friends and collaborators, and are currently working on a show (Anna Hit). Collaborations with playwrights Hilary Bell (The Red Tree), Alexandra Collier (Triplight) and Akin Salawu (The Real Whisper) have also led to productions and development / workshop opportunities with Ars Nova theater and César Alvarez’s Polyphone Festival, National Theatre of Parramatta and residencies at UcrossRhinebeck Writers’ Retreat, SPACE at Ryder Farm and The OrchardI am also developing a new project with playwright Jack Feldstein (Une Parisienne in New York) and one on my own (TBA soon).
